CChallenge Council Tax Band
How it works · six steps

Six steps. About twenty minutes of your time — then the Valuation Office’s clock starts.

From a postcode in our box to a refund in your bank, drawn out so you know exactly what we do, what you do, and what the Valuation Office Agency does next. No buy button on this page — we’ll send you to the free check first.

  • Free to check
  • No card needed
  • 14-day refund on the pack
  • We refuse to recommend weak cases
Step one

Free check (under a minute)

You enter a postcode. We fetch the property’s current Council Tax band from the Valuation Office Agency and pull the bands of similar nearby homes, then score the case Strong / Moderate / Weak / Don’t Pursue against the same evidence rules the VOA itself uses. No card, no email, no account.

Step two · the fork

The honest score — and where the road forks.

The score is the most important screen on this site. If your case is Strong or Moderate, the buy button appears. If it’s Weak or Don’t Pursue, it doesn’t — we won’t sell you a pack we expect the VOA to reject. That refusal is the whole reason this product is trustworthy.

Stripe Checkout opens. The six PDFs land in your inbox in about a minute.

Step three

Pay £39 — only if the score recommends it.

Stripe Checkout handles the payment end to end — we never see your card. One-off price, no subscription, and no success fee, so you keep every penny of any refund. Card details are requested only after you’ve seen the score and decided to proceed.

Step four

Pack delivered in your inbox.

Six PDFs land within a minute or two of payment. You can re-customise the pack any time within 14 days — swap a comparable you’d rather not include, retune the cover-letter’s tone (formal, firm or personal), or edit any paragraph by hand. No extra charge.

Step five

You sign and send it to the VOA.

By email to [email protected]— faster, and you keep a timestamped record — or by post to Wycliffe House in Durham. The User Guide tells you exactly which documents go where. We deliberately don’t submit on your behalf, because that would make us a regulated agent.

Step six

Decision — and a refund if you win.

An acknowledgement lands within roughly two weeks. An informal review usually takes two to four months; a formal proposal up to six. If your band is lowered, the VOA tells your council; the council refunds any overpayment for the period the band was wrong. The pack includes a chase letter for the rare council that doesn’t refund automatically.

Typical timeline · informal review

If they hold the band
Step six · branch

If the VOA refuses to lower the band.

You can ask the VOA for an internal review (free), and — in England — escalate to the Valuation Tribunal (also free). The pack already includes chase letters at week 4 and week 8 plus the escalation templates. Most of this won’t happen; we wrote it because some of it will.

The pack covers all of these
  • A
    Week-4 chase template
If no acknowledgement after a fortnight.
  • B
    Week-8 internal-review request
Politely asks the VOA to reconsider with fresh eyes.
  • C
    Valuation Tribunal pointer
    Independent · free · England-only escalation.

We don’t represent you in any of these — that’s deliberately the line. The templates and the User Guide walk you through it.

What this is NOT

Plain about what we don’t do.

Honesty is the product. If a competing service tells you otherwise on any of these, that’s your cue.

Not a subscription.

£39 is one-off. We never charge you again. No renewal, no auto-debit, no follow-up sales.

No success fee.

We don't take a slice of your backdated refund. The flat fee is everything you pay us, ever.

Not a regulated tax service.

We don't submit on your behalf — you sign and send. That's deliberate: it keeps us out of regulated territory, and it keeps the signature where it belongs.

Not affiliated with HMRC or the VOA.

We use their published data; we are independent. If a service promises insider relationships at the VOA, walk away.

Ready when you are

Ready to see your score?

30 seconds. No card. If the case is weak, we’ll tell you straight.
